Since ancient times people have attached great importance to their hair and, depending on its condition and health, have taken it as the source of beauty or the reason of life’s failures. Such values as individuality, force, consciousness and independence, have been associated with hair. And until now people have been diligently making most various manipulations with their hair to give it a stunning, unique look, shape and style: they comb, cut, dye, twist, straighten, varnish it and apply other cosmetic means.

Hair is a bright illustration of an increadible variety of people and cultures on our planet. For example, a bunch of hair on the crown of a sumo wrestler’s head is so closely associates with his sport activity that it is solemnly cut when he ends his successful career. In Cambodia a groom and a bride wear a special traditional haircut in order to escape the influence of evil forces. In Malaysia long hair is strictly forbidden for men. On the contrary in the state Punjab in India death penalty threatens a man with a short accurate hairstyle.

Because hairstyle is the dominating factor for our looks and because we try to convey a certain emotional message through it, we always want to arrange it in the best possible way. And so, health of hair and proper hair care comes to the foreground for all of us.

In order to make make care of hair proper and effective it is important to correctly determine the type of hair first. Otherwise there is a risk to worsen its condition. Among the basic hair types are: normal, dry, greasy and mixed.

Hair of the normal type reflects light well and shines in the sun. If your hair is elastic, easily combed and set, if it almost doesn’t split and preserves a good healthy look for several days after washing, it means that you take a good care of your hair and use proper means that are 100% suitable for you and your hair. Unfortunately, this is a rare case.

Greasy hair can be characterized by a dim shine. In a short time after washing it begins to stick together and to seem dirty and slovenly. Hair greasiness depends on the activity of sebaceous glands of the scalp. It is very individual and is defined genetically. To some extent the amount of sebum also depends on nutrition and the amount of carbohydrates and espicially fats consumed with food.

Dry hair reflects light badly and that’s why it lookes very dim and lustreless. They are easily torn and broken. Dry hair is difficult to comb because it splits on ends and accumulates static electricity. As a result, it gets tangled and often falls out. In many cases hair becomes dry because of poor care but not because of the lowered activity of sebaceous glands.

Hair of the mixed type is, as a rule, insufficiently greased with sebum along the whole length. That’s why it is usually greasy at roots and dry on ends. The ends of mixed hair don’t receive necessary greasing and often split. It is important to take a combined care of this type of hair and apply special means along with a healthy diet.
